these days my eyes seem kind of hollow
there ain't nothing new under the sun
endless winter nights that end in sorrow
the devil's work is never done.
bitter little pill so hard to swallow
holding on to the thread that keeps me from
coming undone
oh well oh well better days tomorrow
the devils' work is never done
i grew up under someone's thumb
at sixteen years old I left my home
it doesn't matter where I go
I'm always the one that nobody knows
the devil's work is never done.

It's the same today as yesterday
I'm stuck in the glue that binds me to you
but you talk and talk and I can't hear a word you say
the radio is tuned to fear today
and I'm getting tired of all the games we play
and I have lost the fire that used to light my way
the radio is tuned to fear today

I have lived every night at the edge of your fire
I am the other the one you can't abide.
I'm the beam in your eye and the breath that escapes you
I am the reason for your impulse to hide
I have witnessed every failure in the garment that you're weaving the clothing that you're wearing is a lie
when the needle on the record skips . . . .and the song starts over
I'll be standing right beside you, just you and I.
I am a monster. I have no shame. I've come to show you you're own face, you can't escape me no matter how hard you might try. I am a monster and I love you. So if you open your heart to me, then I will show you how to open up your eyes. Open up you eyes.

I was born my father's son
I chained him down
Like a wild-eyed orphan coming home
he never made a sound
I was tied to my mother's apron strings
safely tethered down
from watching her I learned all sorts of things
I watched her life burn down.
Night vision brings relief.
It comes like a thief.
Night vision heals through sound
couldn't imagine what I've found.
Telling truth to the dark always gets me through
but every time I come undone I always find myself in you.
Night vision brings relief, it comes like a thief,
night vision heals through touch,
I never thought I'd feel so much.

pretend it wasn't me
who said those things to you
who spoke with such a cruel heart
and hurt you with the truth
pretend you didn't see
the writing on the wall
the ranting of a madman telling of a fall.
oh the more we show the further we drift apart.
pretend you didn't know
that I would go away
that you wouldn't try to hold on
and make me want to stay
we're coming to an end
it was contained within the start
oh the more we show
the further we drift apart.

doctor says
you have to face the past
or you'll be
painting pictures in a sunny room
for a long time
maybe there isn't
anything there
but as far as I can tell
it's just as well
at 4 o clock it's bingo
what do you know
you win
but as far as i can tell
everybody's hell ends sometime
that's what the doctor says

I'm waiting for the shell to break for the images to fade cause everywhere I look reminds me of my fear I skipped right to the back of the book just to take a look but the story doesn't end on this point i must be clear. you don't have to know what I'm like. You don't have to like anything. Anything at all. I'm waiting for the rope to choke so I can get the joke, I'm tired of the dream. It's just a fucking show. And when I get my head on right and my demons are all in chains, all that will remain is to wait for you here. You don't have to know what to say. You don't have to say anything, anything at all. I've traded in my hope for trust and my heart lies in the dust and all that still remains is to wait for you here. All that still remains, is to wait for you here.
